O advérbio TOO tem dois significados. No fim de uma frase o seu significado é o mesmo de ALSO (ambas as palavras significam também). A utilização é a seguinte: no fim da frase se usa too. Fora desta posição usa-se also.

Exemplo:
• Eu odeio populismo.
• I hate populism.
• Ela também odeia populismo.
• She also hates populism. Ou:
• She hates populism, too.

Um detalhe interessante é que, tanto em português como em inglês, existe uma palavra equivalente à também (too e also) para ser usada quando produzimos uma réplica negativa sobre uma frase original negativa.
Veja um exemplo em português e depois em inglês:

Frase original:
• O João não foi à festa ontem à noite.
• John didn't go to the party last night.

Réplica:
• A Maria também não foi à festa.
• Mary didn't go to the party, either.

A opção em português, que ninguém usa, mas existe, é:
• Tampouco a Maria (foi à festa)

Neste momento, o importante é lembrar que também, em inglês, em uma réplica negativa, é EITHER.

Agora apenas para os que falam alemão: ALSO em alemão significa ENTÃO.

Segunda parte:
O advérbio TOO também indica excesso e então é perfeitamente traduzível por demais.
Observe os seguintes exemplos:
• Isto (ou isso) é bom demais para ser verdade.
• This is too good to be true.

Vamos ver um texto, em inglês, para tornar este artigo menos árido:

"We drink too much. We spend too much.

(A palavra too, sozinha ou acompanhada de much ou many, não muda o seu significado. Ela sempre será traduzida por demais).

We drive too fast; we stay awake too late. We wake up too tired. We have too little, we watch too much TV, and, unfortunately, we seldom have time to pray. We rarely have time to be with ourselves.

We multiply our assets but we reduce the importance of our spiritual values. We talk too much, we hate too much, and thus we seldom have love in our hearts.

We learn how to survive, but we don't know how to live in peace with ourselves. We add years to our lives and not life to our years. We went to the moon and came back, but we have difficulties in crossing the street and welcoming a new neighbor. We have conquered the space but not our own space.

We have made small things bigger, big things smaller, but very few things better.

We try and clean the air we breathe, but we pollute our souls.

We have tamed the atom, but not our prejudices.

We write more, but we learn less. We plan more, but we accomplish less.

We have learned to hurry up, but we have not learned to wait for the right time of the Lord.

We have built computers to store more and more information, and to produce more and more knowledge, still we get in touch with our loved ones less and less every day.

We live in an era in which we have two jobs, three cars, several divorces, fancy houses, and shattered homes.

This is the era of fast trips, disposable diapers, and disposable morals. An era of hollow brains and magic pills. We are living a moment of too many unnecessary things in the shop windows, and too few items of great importance for our happiness in the larders of our souls

This is the time to stop and think our lives over.

Is this the life we dreamed of, when we were young? Remember that it is never too late to change and that all is well that ends well".
